New Democracy Day / Democracy Week Website
Democracy Day and Democracy Week now have their own dedicated website, brought to you by Fair Vote Canada! We plan to make Democracy Week an annual event, and this site will become a one-stop shop for Democracy Day/Week related events coast to coast.
Visit www.democracyday.ca to find out about events and activities scheduled in your region, or make sure people know about your event by posting it on the calendar there.
Help us grow these annual events so that Canadians have an opportunity every year to examine the state of their democracy (not just every time there is a prorogation crisis).
Dine for Democracy Sept 15-22, 2012
During Democracy Week, host a Fair Vote Canada Democracy Dinner! www.fairvote.ca/dinner. Invite a friend or acquaintance who isn't familiar with proportional representation to a Fair Vote dinner and introduce the subject.
Louise Gravelle, from the FVC Simcoe Region Chapter, has provided some ideas for hosts to make it fun!
Do you live in an area with no team or chapter, and would like to meet other Fair Vote Canada supporters in your area? We are happy to invite FVC supporters who live near you. You set the limit on the number of guests, and guests will RSVP you. You can provide snacks or dinner, or make it potluck.
We're up to 23 dinners across Canada so far—let's spread the conversation across Canada!
To sign up, email Anita.Nickerson@FairVote.Ca.
Democracy Week petition campaign
Democracy Week is the perfect time to collect signatures on our formal petition to the House of Commons! We will be collecting signatures at all our Democracy Week events.
These signatures will be presented to MPs across the country, who will be asked to stand up and present our petition in Parliament. Hundreds of MPs in every part of Canada are about to find out that people who live and vote in their riding care about the state of our democracy and are demanding a new, modern, fair, proportional voting system!
If you would like to help gather signatures on our petition, you can download and print off a copy here: Fair Electoral Representation: Petition to the House of Commons.
Note that the formal petition requires actual handwritten signatures, but you can also still sign our Declaration of Voters’ Rights online on our Web site: Declaration of Voters' Rights.
