Joint Effort with DemoChoice.org

Since about 2001, the website DemoChoice.org has been providing a voter interface system for running elections with instant runoff voting and the single transferable vote. Separately, OpenSTV has been providing a desktop application and vote-counting engine since 2003.

The developers of DemoChoice and OpenSTV have come together to create a joint effort that incorporates the best of both projects. DemoChoice now has a version that uses OpenSTV's vote counting engine at http://openstv.demochoice.org/.

This version of DemoChoice supports most of OpenSTV's counting methods, and allows you to run a complete election, from collecting the votes to displaying the election results.

Who uses OpaVote and OpenSTV?

FairVote is using OpaVote for its Oscars Best Picture Poll.

Stack Exchange is using OpenSTV to elect its community moderators for all of 2012 using Meek STV.

Aberystwyth University Guild of Students used OpenSTV for several elections in November 2011.

London Metropolitan University used OpenSTV in October 2011 for its Election to the Academic Board – Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The Document Foundation used OpenSTV to elect its board with Meek STV in October 2011.

London Hackspace used OpaVote and OpenSTV to elect its trustees using Meek STV in August 2011.

The National Youth Rights Association used OpenSTV to elect its board using ERS97 STV in August 2011.

The Cambridge Union Society used OpenSTV to elect several officers in June 2011.
